Important limitations
Medical information disclaimer
This website provides general professional and educational information. It is not a diagnosis, prescription, treatment plan, or substitute for an assessment by an appropriately qualified provider.
General education only
Content may describe device categories, footwear considerations, manufacturing stages, common questions, and clinic–laboratory communication. It does not evaluate an individual, establish a diagnosis, prescribe or dispense a device, replace product instructions, create a clinician–patient relationship, or guarantee an outcome, workplace acceptance, insurance reimbursement, or product availability.
Individual assessment matters
Symptoms, medical history, skin integrity, circulation, sensation, mobility, balance, footwear, activities, occupation, medications, prior devices, and other factors can change what is appropriate. A qualified provider should assess the patient, explain options and uncertainty, document the plan, confirm fit, and arrange follow-up appropriate to the situation.
Do not modify a device from web instructions
General descriptions of trimming, posting, cushioning, stiffness, top covers, accommodation, or repair are not instructions for changing an individual device. Heating, grinding, bending, gluing, cutting, or adding material without appropriate review can change fit, pressure, durability, or the prescribed construction and may conceal evidence needed to identify the original problem.
Adaptation and warning signs
A gradual adaptation plan may be recommended in some circumstances, but “break-in” should not be used to dismiss persistent or worsening symptoms. Stop and seek appropriate advice when a device causes marked pain, skin injury, numbness, instability, new pressure, unexpected swelling, or cannot sit correctly in the intended footwear. The responsible provider should decide whether the device, footwear, use plan, or clinical assessment needs review.
Professional users and evidence
Practitioners must apply their own training, scope, standards, current evidence, product instructions, patient consent, and jurisdictional requirements. Sources linked by this site support general statements but cannot account for every presentation or supersede a regulator, payer, employer, manufacturer, or professional standard that applies to a particular case. Laboratory discussion does not transfer the clinician’s responsibilities.
Emergencies and worsening symptoms
This site and its public email are not emergency services. New or severe pain, rapidly changing swelling, skin breakdown, colour or temperature change, loss of sensation, sudden weakness, shortness of breath, or another urgent concern requires appropriate medical attention. Use local emergency services when immediate help may be needed.
